Wish Upon a Star Blog Hop

Wow! I can say it's been a while ... it's nice to welcome you back if you've visited before and if not, well, I'm happy to welcome you first time visitors. Many, many thanks to Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for the hard work of arranging this hop!  Certainly not an easy task to keep all those details in order and up-to-date.  Thank you, Carol!

I actually had an idea for my project before learning about this hop. So, when I ran across the notice, I hurried and asked if I could be included, and once I made the list, I promptly set my project aside thinking ... well, I've got plenty of time, I'll get to it later.

Yeah ... right.

[hahahahaha]

My original project idea was going to be using A Year of Mini's July small mini pattern from Sherri K. Falls of This & That:

... needless to say, I finished my totally different than originally planned project this weekend. I made the mini star, not connecting the dots in my mind when I was following the directions and ended up making four teeny tiny stars. Well, dang... I didn't want the whole wall quilt, ltI wanted a mini.

So, I fussed and fidgeted and didn't "quite" follow directions and put together another two blocks that may, or may not have worked, so now I had six blocks that I didn't feel "flowed...." I was beginning to run out of material and ripping out seams and re-configuring blocks ... trust me ... I was wishing on the stars to have this project come together!

Then low and behold ... about 9:30 Saturday evening inspiration struck!

Wooo - to the - whoo!!!

I did a bit more cutting so when I got up Sunday morning I could pick up where I left off the night before.

I am very happy to share my completed mini stars:

Pictures are in the same spot, just different lighting.

Honestly, I'm really pleased with the result.  I believe I'm going to start a collection for my sewing room wall of minis just for fun and this will be a great beginning :)

The two blocks that didn't make the cut are here:

Yes, they are different sizes, even different from the ones in the quiltlette above. I may go ahead and make miniatures with these ... or not.  Time will tell.  I just could not resist the birds, and the expressions .... see the eyes of the one peeking from the bottom right of the top block? Makes me smile .... :)

Well, that's all I have to share for now. I really do thank you for stopping in for a visit.  I should be your last stop today, but if not, I encourage you to visit the creative folks on today's roster.

  9. I'm so sorry, but I just might have laughed a bit at your accidental change of plans from mini's to a wall hanging. Not that I would ever do something like that (LOL). You brought out your star-studded creativity to turn the tiny blocks into a gorgeous wall hanging...I love it! Those birds are the cutest and were made to be fussy cut. So sweet! Thanks for showing off your stars and joining in the hop. You rock my world, sweet friend!

  11. I totally understand why you want a bevy of minis for your sewing room. I love stars and the birds just put the icing on the cake for the blocks. I love it when a quilter uses a color (this shade of green) that I would never dream of using and I love it in the quilt. Thank you for making me accepting of something outside of not just my comfort zone - my "Not in this lifetime" box. What a great job!!!!
