My Hop Stop

It's my turn in the spotlight of the

Red, White & Blue Blog Hop!

My thanks to each and every one of you for hopping on in ...

My special thanks to Jane and Madame Samm for all the arranging!!

Everyone who participates in this hop,
from the quilters, hoppers, and organizers,
you make this event so much fun and
share such inspiration and encouragement ...

Thank you!

Without further adeiu,

here's my Red, White & Blue ...

The first block I made is a slightly modified version of  a pattern I found  in the
Summer 2010 Quiltmaker's Small Quilts magazing ...
the pattern is called Stars over Texas by Jo Morton ...
and while I really liked the design and idea of her pattern ...
well ... take a look:

The original block was 8x8, stopping at the red border and would have had cornerstones.
Needless to say, I enlarged the inner block, added the two additional borders and decided to miter all the corners ... thought it looked pretty cool for a 12 1/2 inch block.
I used Hometown fabric by Sweetwater.
Think now I'm going to use it for a pillow front because ... well, I like it ... alot :)

So, I had intended to stop with just that block and turn it into a table topper somehow,
then ... I'll be darned, but I got an itch to sew a bit more and dug through my stash,
found some more red, white and blue fabrics and ...

Well, I started with one blue one, found out I cut enough for two, and couldn't make just two so made a third which I believe should be enough for a table runner ... eventually :) :)
I honestly cant tell you the name of every fabric in those blocks, but the block is from the book Lazy and Lovin' It by Joan Hawley,
 ... LOVE IT!!!

Okay, okay ... any girl with half a brain
(and I'm not claiming I even have half)
would have stopped there ... and I was GONNA!

Well ...I'll be danged (again!) BUT
and I blame it all on Lesley over at The Cuddle Quilter
who just HAD to make a block that I was drooling over
on the very first day of the hop
so much that I had to go out and hunt up the magazine
she used to make the block from
.... which by the way, was from
(yes, my picture in the dictionary  when looking up obsessed quilter!)

So ... I head to my stash again ...
pull out some more red, white and blue fabrics again
and

TaDa!
(this is where the ticker tape, balloons and noisemakers all fly free)

Good grief ... after all that hype, you'd think it'd be a bit more exciting than that, but heck ... what can I say, I guess you had to be on this side of my computer monitor ... sorry for the let down .... :) :) :)
But I really like the block and, I cut some "streamers" from the red fabric and appliqued them onto the white backing and made this banner from the block ... it can be either a wall hanging or a table topper ...
I think what made Lesley's block so special,
I decided after I finished my block,
was the dark, hand quilting she did around the block itself ...
very cool and one I may have to attempt again ...
I promise less hype next time ;) HA

How about to make up for the wee-let down and lack of ticker tape,
I have a giveaway???
Besides, if you've made it all the way down to the end of this post,
you've earned yourself some sort of chance at a reward ...

You game?
Red, White and Blue themed, even :)

Okay ... first, I do request that you are a follower of my blog
and let me know in your comment,
second, in your comment, let me know what your
favorite block of the hop has been so far ...
you obviously know mine, I'm interested to read yours.

Oh ... would you like to see what's up for grabs???
hehehehe

How's this:

Yep, two patterns -- one quilt and one table runner --
and ...
one Red White & Bold charm pack by Sandy Gervais ...
and ...
at time of publishing this post,
I am finishing up a Red White & Blue Schnibbles pincushion
to include with the giveaway ...

Update:

I finished the pincushion...

.... front and back photos!
If that is enough to tempt you,
Please leave a comment with the above information,
and I'll draw names next Saturday,
July 14th around 8 p.m. Mountain time.
Make sure I have a way to contact you, as
the winner will be contacted via email and posted here.

If you are a no-reply blogger, please include your
email address in your comment.
I've had a few "no-repliers" and I won't
be able to reply to your comments! :(

Now ... I know there are some wonderfully talented quilters yet to visit today,
so I thank you again for stopping by and send you on your way to visit:

and, if by chance you get lost  sidetracked along the way,
just look for Jane's button on any of our blogs:

And you'll get right back on the hopping trail ...

Until next we meet, happy hopping and warm hearted wishes!

Thank you!!

I honestly could not name a favorite - I would hurt feelings - and there is much more to come. I only wish I could make each and every block that has been shared. A follower.

First, I love your wall hanging/table runner! The block is fab and the way you put the strips on looks great. Second, I am a follower, and one of my favorite blocks from the hop is the Fireworks block from Teresa in Music City (A Quilt and A Prayer). Thanks for holding the giveaway!

Now if I could only find that magazine - loved that block myself.

Your block evolution was a joy to read and your banner turned out spectacular.

I have been a devoted follower for quite a while.
Everyone has done terrific blocks but quite intrigued with Michell's Folk Art Fusion block on July 2nd.

Hiya Wendy!! I'm a new follower on your blog and you sure can feel the excitement in your post. I loved your blocks and as hard as it is to choose just one favoite block at the moment I would have to choose Block 2, applique, called Abloom, designed by Barbara Cherniwchan, of Coach House Designs on The Cuddle Quilter also!! It appeals to my handpiecing side of me and has a super vintage look about it. Thank you for the oppuntunity to win such a wonderful prize.
Sincerely,
Tricia

Wendy I can't believe with no more time than you have that you made several blocks...and a table runner! I love the wavy streamers and I know I'm going to be trying that. :) My favorite block of the hop, so far, would have to be Michelle May's Hearts. I love her style. But I have to add that there have been several I've starred to come back to, including this last one of yours! blessings, marlene

Hi Wendy, love the streamers blowing in the wind. The Hometown fabric have made that a star cushion. Then the wonderful other blocks.
I have seen so many RWB blocks then went astray on each person's blog to look at more of their wonderful work. But it is the RWB Dresden block which will be joined by others to become a table runner.
I haven't half a brain I have a numb brain from all the marvellous work which I have seen & the week isn't over.
And I am not sewing just viewing...EEK...well done.

Love the banner with the streamers...Also--Thank you for sharing the generous giveaway. It is difficult to select a favorite..so many awesome blocks in each quilters unique style. For just a fun block, I would have to say the Exploding Firecracker.

lou said...

I have truly enjoyed all of the blocks but......The one that spoke to me was your banner that looks like a pinwheel from when we were growing up with the streamers trailing downward. It would look great on our summer kitchen porch.

I am a new follower. I liked Tubakk's block the red and white disappearing four patch. I obsessively spent an hour or two on the internet looking at various versions and tutorials. My second favorite was the web block after it was all assembled on Quilt Taffy. I like rather straightforward geometrics and I just found out how much I like red with white!

I seriously can't choose a favorite, it changes from blog to blog and day to day, LOL. I am a follower! I bought some of the Red, White & Bold when I first started quilting and have been saving it for something special. Well I found a project I wanted to do with it and discovered that I will need more of it and not a single piece had a printed selvage!! I have been searching high and low for the name of it...SO, Thanks so much for the name! I feel like I have already won, LOL!! P.S. If you have any more pieces, scraps, yardage I would be happy to buy/beg/steal/trade for them!

Really like how you used the mini dot with it.

I am already a follower. You have been doing a lot of sewing with your red, white, and blue. The blocks all look wonderful and I love how you added to the one to create the wall hanging. That looks awesome.

As far as what my favorite has been so far, it would have to be Block #2 from The Recipe Bunny. I love that block and she had enough requests that she's now done a tutorial to show how to make that one. YAY.

just to be sure you have it:

Your blocks look great! You certainly aren't the first to get carried away and make more than one block. Look at how much inspiration this hop is giving us! Am a new follower. Can't really say which one was my favourite block, am getting so lost going from one to the other, and seeing so many really nice, beautiful ones, it's hard to pinpoint one particularly! Thanks for the giveaway.

So many great blocks in the hop, but I really do like tubakk's disappearing fourpatch. Thanks for participating in the Red, White and Blue hop!

I am a follower of your blog.
I have seen so many blocks on this hop that they all seem to blur but I really love the red and blue stars that you created. They remind me of a pattern that I used to love drawing and the colours in them are wonderful. I know that they are not red, white and blue on the same block but I really like them.
Thanks for sharing.

They are all so cool. I really like your wall hanging. I am cutting and attempting to recreate as I type. Seriously, I would never have thought to do that with my block.

I'm a new follower :) There have been so many awesome blocks, it's hard to choose! I think I'll have to go with the spider blocks--they're new to me and I can't wait to try some with my scraps. Thanks for sharing!

Wow! So wonderful all of it and I have to chuckle that you felt the pull to make your own version of Lesley's block so fast. Your banner/runner is great. Which block is my very favorite so far? That is impossible to pick just one.

I am a new follower and I must say I wanted to join before I saw the give a way. However it is a really nice bonus! I am a new hopper and I could not possibly choose a favorite block because they are all incredible. So, I will choose my favorite on your page and that will be (drum roll) the Streamer runner. I would love to make one myself.
